Thomas M. Carithers, Sr., 82, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Tom was born April 4, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Venita Dora (Brandes) Carithers. After graduating from high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force. He went on to a long career in law enforcement, eventually retiring from the Warren County Sheriff's Department. Tom also owned and operated Vac World in Galesburg for 35 years.
Tom is survived by one daughter, Shawna Davis of Davenport, Florida; one sister, Marlene Vickstrom of West Des Moines, Iowa; and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his long-time friend, Stephany Grawey of Galesburg. Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his son Thomas, M. Carithers, Jr. on April 28, 2024.
Tom is a member of Alpha Lodge No. 155, A.F.&A.M. as well as the Mohammed Shriners. He loved going to police retirees' breakfast on Wednesday mornings. He also enjoyed chatting with friends, old and new.
